“When I grow up, I want to be a CEO” — big dreams coming from young Kelsea G.
Kelsea won the Deportment Award for the 2023/24 school year in recognition of her consistently excellent behaviour and respectful attitude.
This attitude is also reflected in the three words this Grade 4 student uses to describe herself: kind, helpful, and nice.
Kelsea enjoys helping her classmates and at home with her mother and older sister, Haile, who is part of the first Grade 6 cohort to transition from Grade 6.
Kelsea’s favourite subject is mathematics. She credits her love of the subject to Mr. Kelly, who she says makes it enjoyable and helps her improve. These days, she beams with pride when she tells her mom about scoring 80 or 90 percent.
Kelsea is also a very well-rounded student — she enjoys Spanish, music, physical education, drama, and playing with her many friends. Kelsea says she also likes volleyball and track and field.
She remembers her first day at Christel House Jamaica vividly: “It was fun, I liked my teacher and how the school looked.” Now, she says her favourite part of school is “how the staff treat us nice and always offer help.”
Her mother is equally proud not just of Kelsea’s behaviour and grades, but of how Christel House has positively impacted their lives.
“Christel House help me a lot, because if she was going to a different school, mi would have to think about school fee, bus fare, lunch and everything.”
Avannie has also watched both of her daughters grow at CHJ.
Haile, her older daughter, has also excelled, placing second in her class this year and improving significantly since Grade 4. Avannie is excited to see her transition to Christel House Jamaica’s new high school for Grade 7.
“Kelsea was always well-behaved. Every report mi get with her no trouble, good attendance, everything. She more focused now, she do her work and understand every likkle thing.”
Kelsea looks up to her teachers and says they’ve helped her become more confident and capable. “They help me out,” she says, explaining sometimes her schoolwork is hard, but she studies and pushes to get better.
“I feel like I’ve changed, because I get my education and I have lots of fun.”
Kelsea says with a smile that winning the award made her feel really good and her mom was proud of her. She will be working to win more.
