Model Move: Christel House Sets the Standard

Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Senator Dr. the Hon. Dana Morris Dixon, lauded Christel House Jamaica as a model institution that represents the future of education in Jamaica.

In her remarks at our fifth anniversary celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony for our new high school in Twickenham Park, Spanish Town, Dr. Morris Dixon expressed admiration for CHJ’s holistic approach to education and student support.

“Christel House is a model of what we want all schools to look like, ultimately,” she said. “And that’s why government has to support some of these innovations in education, because we can learn from them and use what we’re learning to put into the mainstream system.”

Calling our school “a beautiful example of giving resources, of empowering our young people in different ways, and even just how the curriculum is developed,” the Minister commended Christel House Jamaica for redefining access to quality education.

The Minister emphasized that what makes Christel House truly remarkable is its commitment to serving children from the most under-resourced communities, making it clear to every child that they matter and deserve the very best opportunities.

Dr. Morris Dixon said, “They provide everything — they provide nutrition, they provide books, the wonderful school environment, there are no school fees. They even provide transportation for the children.”

“That’s a beautiful model of us saying to our children that you’re important. It doesn’t matter that you’re at the bottom now, but you can be at the top,” she added. “We’re gonna give you the best of education — anywhere in the world would look at this and say this is top notch. And that’s what’s beautiful.”
