Children celebrate first term in Jamaica

Christel House Jamaica (CHJ) marked a milestone in December – the end of the first term for the newest Christel House school. Children and staff celebrated with an end-of-year concert that included sing-alongs, storytelling, dancing, and special performances by several teachers.“The students were excited to see their teachers and staff members onstage,” says Vivien Morris, Speech, Drama & Visual Arts Teacher. At the conclusion of the program, children were treated to ice cream, cake, and toys.

“The Christel House experience has been a whole new world for our students,” says Ms. Morris. “For many of the younger ones, this has been where they have taken their very first steps – into a school and the experience of formal education.” She sees a change in the student body as a whole. “They all appear to have gotten over their initial separation anxiety and most greet the teachers warmly each morning, clearly anxious to continue with their fascinating journey.”

Concert supporters included the Jamaica Forestry Department; Hon. William Shagoury, C.D., J.P., Custos Rotulorum, Clarendon; Mrs. Judy Schoenbein, J.P.; Pro Net Systems; Mrs. Alma Chung; Holsum Bakery; Mr. Chris Bovell; Mr. Michael Lake & Burger King; Mrs. Carol Webster & Scoops; Mr. Jason McIntosh; Mr. Orville Sewell; Ms. Alice Hogarth; Mr. Osburn Bogle; and Hon Sally Porteous, CEO, CHJ.
